Oppression in the play ‘Parliament of Owls’.

Discuss how Adipo Sidang’ has addressed oppression in the play ‘Parliament of Owls’.

First, Sidang’ portrays oppression through the introduction of the Moonlight Bill. Money Bags sponsors a law that restricts day birds from twittering and flying from tree to tree after 6:00 p.m. This law interferes with the birds’ freedom and normal way of life. The day birds can no longer sing to their young ones at night. They are also required to register their eggs with Olik Tiga, which provides the Owls with an opportunity to steal them. Through this law, the playwright demonstrates how oppressive leaders can use legislation to deprive citizens of their basic freedoms while pretending to protect society.
