Evil People Eventually Face the Consequences

Evil People Eventually Face the Consequences of Their Misdeeds in The Samaritan by John Lara

Wrongdoers may hide their crimes for some time, but eventually the truth comes out and they face the consequences of their actions. In The Samaritan by John Lara, Mayor Mossi tries to hide his corrupt activities and protect his position. However, his efforts fail as his evil deeds are exposed.

First, Mayor Mossi tries to hide his corruption during the launch of the Samaritan App. The app is a winning innovation by students of Sagrada Secondary School. During the launch, the students perform a skit that exposes corruption in the municipal procurement process. Mossi becomes uncomfortable because he fears that his corrupt activities will be revealed. He refuses to launch the app and orders Nicole and Principal Narine to stop all activities related to it. He also directs Nicole to write a letter expressing reservations about the app. Despite his efforts, the truth about corruption in the municipality continues to emerge.

Secondly, Mossi tries to intimidate Nicole to protect himself. He blames other leaders, such as Ted and Seymour, for the problems in the municipality. He claims that he is being blamed for other people's mistakes. However, Nicole reminds him that, as the overall leader, he must take responsibility. Mossi becomes angry and threatens Nicole, hoping she will stop supporting the app. Unfortunately for him, Nicole refuses to give in to his threats, making it difficult for him to hide his evil deeds.

Thirdly, Mossi attempts to bribe Nicole to conceal his wrongdoings. He admits that he has made mistakes and asks Nicole to remove negative information about him from the Samaritan App. He offers her money and asks her to name any amount she wants. Nicole is disappointed because she expects the mayor to serve the people honestly. She threatens to expose his bribery attempt on the app. Mossi's plan fails because Nicole remains firm and refuses to accept the bribe. This shows that his corrupt behaviour is becoming more exposed.

Fourthly, Mossi holds an emergency meeting to find ways of stopping the Samaritan App. He is worried that the app will expose corruption and cost the leaders their jobs. He asks Harvester to buy newspapers carrying damaging headlines and suggests that they find computer experts to hack the app. He also proposes issuing a circular to stop the use of the app in Maracas Municipality. However, the leaders disagree among themselves, and their plans fail. Eventually, Mossi is arrested, showing that he cannot escape the consequences of his actions.

Fifthly, Mossi tries to use the media to defend himself. After learning that Ramdaye and other leaders may remove him from office, he asks Harvester to organise daily press conferences. He wants the public to believe that the allegations against the municipal leaders are lies spread by political enemies. He also suggests that they raise concerns about cyberbullying and spy software. Mossi even vows that a vote of no confidence against him will never succeed. However, these efforts do not erase the truth about the corruption in the municipality.

Finally, Mossi attempts to blackmail Justice Jaden to protect his position. He asks Jaden to speed up the cases against Ramdaye and his team and ensure that they are convicted. He hopes that this will prevent them from removing him from office. He also demands that other leaders be jailed for their alleged offences. However, his plan fails when Jaden seeks Harvester's help. Mossi's actions reveal how desperate he has become to protect himself from the consequences of his misdeeds.
